Workout of the Week 10.17.2011

Last Thursday I talked about planks and leg raises as extremely effective exercises for strong, well defined abs. (remember, nutrition is important too)

We were vacationing in Colorado this weekend and decided to use what we had available to demonstrate the exercises rather than using the ones we have from the gym.

One of the ab exercises is hanging leg raises. This is a great full body strengthening exercise, but really works the core. Here are a few variations from a local playground.

Leg Raises - Knees Bent
Leg Raises - Legs Straight
Leg Raises - Alternating Legs Straight
Leg Raises - Alternating Knees Bent
Leg Raises - Alternating Obliques
Leg Raises - Legs Straight Overhead

We didn't exactly find a place to perform real planks. Here are a few extreme examples of planks.  (please do not try these at home, Seriously)

Push Up Plank
Push Up Plank Arms Bent
Spiderman Plank
Side Plank - Arms Straight

Okay, I got a little crazy towards the end of the photos and decided to try "planking" on everything. (again, do not try these at home)

Monkey Bar Planking
Seesaw Plank
Teeter Totter Plank
Truck Plank
Swing plank

We had a few more, but I think we've shared enough of the silliness that goes on during our vacations. Until next time...
